Classroom arrangementChecking station
When students complete their maths activity they can take their work and check their answers at the checking stations in designated areas of the classroom. This allows them to recognize their errors and they are expected to show their steps to fix the problems. By doing this it creates a greater sense of independence and confidence in their abilities. This also teaches children that mistakes are okay. Children want to be perfect and they are often afraid to make mistakes, but by making these mistakes, recognizing where they went wrong and correcting their errors, children are developing a better understanding of the mathematical concept and are more likely to get it right the next time.

Inquiry Area
Inquiry areas provide children with a quiet space to explore, and space to work either independently or in small groups. Children who find it hard to think or focus in the busy classroom environment may take advantage of an inquiry area as it allows them greater focus and chance to explore. Inquiry areas also provide space for learning centers, a space for children to work on these inquiry based questions. |
